Iron Armory LAV-400 Renegade Scout Vehicle:
Iron Armory has created a variety of effective military type vehicle
including both for combat and support roles. One problem is that the larger
and heavier armed combat designs are expensive. Even the Mountain Lion
is relatively expensive. One type of vehicle that several groups have stated
an interest in is small lightly armed combat vehicles that are designed
to be very fast. One of the main roles these vehicles were envisioned for
was combat scouting. Due to the interest in such a design, Iron Armory
began developing such a design. The design they came up was the Renegade
Scout Vehicle. It was relatively conventional and borrowed features from
both other Iron Armory designs and designs from other companies. So far
the Renegade has only been produced in small number but have sold fairly
well. Still, there are some who believe that power armors can fill the
same role better. Others feel that the Renegade is better armed while cheaper
and is also considered very useful for use by security services.
The vehicle is designed with a top mounted turret near the rear which
carries a copy of the Wellington automatic grenade launcher and a pulse
laser weapon. On either side of the chassis are missile launchers which
are positioned under the turret. Like other Iron Armory designs, the type
of missile launcher can be chosen by the purchaser and can be changed in
about eight hours for both mounts. Available launchers include mini-missile,
short range, and medium range missile launchers. While theoretically, two
different launchers can be carried but most crews prefer to not mix launchers
and the designers support this. The vehicle also has smoke grenade launchers
which have twelve grenades per launcher. Tear gas grenades can also be
used and are especially popular for vehicles used for security roles. The
vehicles are only lightly armed but can still take a fair amount of damage
before being destroyed. Sensors on the vehicle are similar to other Iron
Armory designs and are very effective for scouting missions.
The body of the Renegade has sloped sides, both to be more streamlined
and to reduce the impact of weapon hits. The scout vehicle rides on four
wheels with a special active suspension. The solid tires are made of incredibly
strong materials which can be chewed up to a huge extent before the tires
come apart. This is similar to that carried on the Desert Wolf jeep and
allows the vehicle to travel of broken ground at high speeds. The top speed
on rounds is about 120 miles per hour on roads and around 80 miles per
hour when riding off-road. A variety of different engines are available
for the design. The vehicle is available engines which use conventional
liquid fuel, electrical batteries, fuel cells, or even fusion reactors.
The nuclear version is the most expensive but has virtually unlimited range.
The fusion version uses two fusion reactors similar to those used on power
armors. The versions of the Renegade which use liquid fuel and electrical
batteries are similar to most similar systems. The technology for the fuel
cell design was purchased by Metalworks Incorporated from Archangel "Heavy"
Industries who got the designs of fuel cells from pre-rifts records. The
fuel cells operate by pulling the electrons off of an H2 molecule,
splitting it into 2H+ molecules and 2 electrons. The electrons
pass through the "load" (engines, weapons, avionics, etc.) creating current
and powering the systems. Meanwhile, the 2H+ molecules pass
from the anode to the cathode through the electrolyte. At the other "end",
the electrons then recombine with the 2H+ molecules and Oxygen
(from the air) and are released as water from the rear of the vehicle.

making it useless.
Speed:
Ground: Cruising speed on land is 120 mph (193.1 kph) on roads
and 80 mph (128.7 kph) off road maximum. The vehicle is designed to traverse
virtually all terrain and can climb at up to a 60% grade although at a
much slower speed (About 10% of maximum road speed). It can also climb
barriers and ford trenches. The vehicle can also handle side slopes of
up to 30%.
Maximum Range: With gas or electric, 1,000 miles (1,610 km),
with fuel cells, 1,250 (2,011.7 km), and with fusion, effectively unlimited.
Statistical Data:
Height: 7.2 feet (2.2 meters).
Width: 8.5 feet (2.6 meters)
Length: 16.7 feet (5.1 meters)
Weight: 8.3 tons (7.5 metric tons) fully loaded
Power Source: Four versions. Nuclear with 5 year fusion reactor,
Electric, Conventional liquid fuel that uses aviation gas, and Fuel cell
version that uses Hydrogen as a fuel to produce electricity.
Cargo Capacity: Minimal, enough for equipment with crew.
Black Market Cost: Basic vehicle costs 400,000 credits with
Internal Combustion engine, 500,000 with Electrical engine or fuel cell
power system, and 1,600,000 for fusion with a 5 year life.
Weapon Systems:
- Main Turret:
On the top of the vehicle is a turret which
mounts a rapid fire laser cannon and an automatic grenade launcher. The
turret is controlled by a gunner inside of the turret and has the ability
to rotate 360 degrees and barrels can angle up to 85 degrees. Weapon mount
is mainly designed for use against other vehicles and against infantry
but can angle high enough to be useful against aircraft. Both weapons are
in a single sleeve and elevate together.
- Rapid Fire Machine gun Style Laser Cannon:
A light laser
designed mainly for anti-infantry use that allows for all the bursts available
to a machine gun except full melee. While the weapon does not inflict as
much damage as the grenade launcher, its rapid fire and unlimited payload
makes it very useful.
Maximum Effective Range: 3,000 feet (914 meters)
Mega-Damage:
2D6 for single shot (Costs 1 attack)
4D6 for ten round burst at one target (Costs 1 attack)
2D6 for ten round burst at 1D4 targets (Costs 1 attack)
1D6x10 for thirty round burst at one target (Costs 1 attack)
2D6 for thirty round burst at 1D8 targets (Costs 1 attack)
Rate of Fire: Equal to combined hand to hand attacks of gunner
Payload: For Combustion, Electrical, or Fuel
cell versions: 600 shots. With the Fuel Cell version, It takes
approximately two minutes for a trained crew to change the hydrogen tank
that powers the weapon, assuming that a spare tank is available. Untrained
crews will take about six minutes to accomplish this task. For fusion:
unlimited shots.
- Automatic Grenade Launcher:
Weapon is WI-GL21 Automatic Grenade
Launcher mounted in the turret with a higher payload than a standard grenade
launcher. Weapon inflicts massive damage when firing bursts and is well
liked by most turret crews.
Maximum Effective Range: 3,000 feet (914 meters)
Mega-Damage: 4D6 for Fragmentation with a blast area of 12 feet
(3.7 meters) and 1D4x10 for Armor Piercing with a blast area of 3 feet
(0.9 meters), burst of 10 rounds does 2D6x10 for Fragmentation with a blast
area of 40 feet (12.2 meters) and 3D6x10 for Armor Piercing with a blast
area of 8 feet (2.4 meters).
Rate of Fire: Equal to combined hand to hand attacks of gunner
Payload: 400 Rounds
- Variable Missile Launchers (2):
Mounted on either side of
the vehicle and the vehicle can be constructed with one of three different
type of missile launchers. The type of launcher is normally built onto
the vehicle at the factory and would take a mechanic about 8 hours to switch
from one launcher to another.
- Medium Range Missile Launchers:
Longer ranged than the other
launchers but less missiles are carried. Usually used for long range bombardment
or anti-aircraft roles.
Maximum Effective Range: Varies with missile types, medium range
missiles only (Go to Revised
bomb and missile table).
Mega-Damage: Varies with missile types, medium range missiles
only (Go to Revised
bomb and missile table).
Rate of Fire: One at a time or in volleys of 2, 4, or 6.
Payload: each launcher carries 3 medium range missiles for a
total of 6 medium range missiles. Carries 6 medium range missiles as reloads
inside vehicle
- Short Range Missile Launchers:
More commonly carried for
use against incoming missiles and aircraft with a shorter range than medium
range missiles but more can be carried.
Maximum Effective Range: Varies with missile types, short range
missiles only (Go to Revised
bomb and missile table).
Mega-Damage: Varies with missile types, short range missiles
only (Go to Revised
bomb and missile table).
Rate of Fire: One at a time or in volleys of 2, 4, 6, or 12.
Payload: each launcher carries 6 short range missiles for a
total of 12 short range missiles. Carries 12 short range missiles as reloads
inside vehicle
- Mini Missile Launchers:
Mostly used for short range bunker
busting and against other armored vehicles. Much shorter range and not
independently guided although more mini-missiles are carried than short
range missiles.
Maximum Effective Range: Varies with missile types, mini-missiles
only (Go to Revised
bomb and missile table).
Mega-Damage: Varies with missile types, mini missiles only (Go to Revised
bomb and missile table).
Rate of Fire: One at a time or in volleys of 2, 5, 10, or 20.
Payload: each launcher carries 10 mini-missiles for a total
of 20 Mini-missiles. Carries 20 mini-missiles as reloads inside vehicle.
- Smoke Dispenser (2):
Mounted on either side of the vehicle
and launches smoke grenades. In addition to smoke grenades, tear gas grenades
are also common for security operations. While other types of grenades
can be used, they have been rarely carried. Recently, there has been consideration
for the use of prismatic aerosol and decoy grenades to help protect the
vehicle against lasers.
Effect: Creates a cloud of smoke 40 ft (12 m) in diameter. Other
special effects per grenade type. (Tear Gas Grenades: See Weapon
description for details)
Rate of Fire: Two per melee
Range: 1,200 feet (365 m)
Payload: Carries 12 smoke grenades per launcher.
Sensory Equipment:
- Radio/ Video Communications (Standard): Long range, directional,
has a range of 500 miles with short range directional radio of 5 miles.
- Laser Targeting System: Range is 2 miles and gives +1 to strike
with long range weapons. Not applicable to hand to hand
- Combat Computer/ Targeting Computer: Assist in the tracking of targets.
- Radar (Standard): 50 miles, can identify 96 targets and track 48
as low as 500 ft. Same as robots Maxi-Radar.
- Full Life Support: Protects pilot and tank from heat and radiation
and gives a breathable atmosphere inside the Vehicle. It protects against
chemical and biological weapons as well.
- Spotlight: Range: 600 feet (182.9 meters)
- Thermo-Imager: Range: 2,000 ft (609 m). Finds the infra-red radiations
of things that are warm. Also enables pilot to see in smoke, shadows and
darkness.
- Nightvision Optics: Range: 2,000 ft (609 m). Uses light amplification
to make a picture. Emits no light but will not work in absolute darkness.
System can be dazzled by sudden bright lights but does not physically blind
the pilot.
Bonuses: +10% to all piloting rolls due to handling.
